Cori was taken to the city pound because "her leg smelled." She had been hit by a car about a month ago and had sustained a serious injury to her right front leg. Obviously, her owners had not taken her to the vet and had not provided her with any kind of medical help. Her leg wound was putrid with infection and she had chewed through to the bone in several places. We were called because the only other alternative was to euthanize her. At 2 years old, we felt that she should get the help she needed. She was given a thorough exam and her leg was shaved and cleaned. She is a young female, and otherwise in good health. She underwent surgery on Friday, September 23, 2005, to remove her right front leg. Cori will learn to walk on three legs and with a lot of love and tender care, she will do well with her own family. She is shown here, resting comfortably just after surgery. Cori has been adopted is being trained as a therapy dog! She was on a diet, but gained a pound (boy, do I share THAT story!) She now goes up and down the stairs, uses the doggie door and enjoys going on walks! Cori is a "talker" and is very social. She not only brightens her new family's days, she will be brightening lots of handicapped people's days! Once again, we are blessed by the doctors and staff at Manzano Animal Clinic: the loving care they give to our animals, their expertise and heart. Without their support, we could not do the work that we do. Please help us help other little ones like Cori. Your donations are tax deductible and the money replenishes our medical fund to help the animals. Lap Dog Rescue of NM has no paid employees. We don't even use our donated funds for dog food and incidentals. In addition to your thoughts and prayers for the little ones like Cori, we truly appreciate your financial support. |
