Rosie was abandoned with a serious leg injury, left as a stray at a local facility. She spent several days there waiting for her family to claim her, and when they didn't come, a private rescue retrieved her. Since her leg was badly swollen and she could not put any weight on it, she was taken to a nearby vet. The preliminary diagnosis was that she had a broken leg, but the vet was not equipped to handle this type of injury. That's where we stepped in. We picked her up and transported her to Manzano Animal Clinic (04/07/05). They made her comfortable, and after xrays were taken, we discovered that she had a spiral fracture of the right rear leg. She was taken into emergency surgery shortly after that where her leg was pinned and plated. She responded well after surgery and within a couple of days, she was brought to her foster home to recuperate. We noticed that she was very depressed and thought it was due to the surgery, but by the next morning she had not taken so much as a taste of water, and would not even attempt to stand up. Back to the vet we went. We didn't think that the situation could possibly get worse for Rosie, but it did... She tested positive for parvo. A few more days in the hospital and Rosie, fortunately, bounced right back. She really is a survivor! Our veterinary bills, however, had more than tripled. Rosie's bill - $2585.99! Rosie is ready to find her new home. She shows no sign of being ill or having a broken leg. She loves to play with other pups and REALLY likes squeaky toys! She is loveable, playful, cuddly, and pure joy! (Rosie will be a calendar girl for the local animal shelter in 2006!) We are blessed by the doctors and staff at Manzano Animal Clinic: the loving care they give to our animals, their expertise and heart. Without their support, we could not do the work that we do. Please help us help other little ones like Rosie. Your donations are tax deductible and the money replenishes our medical fund to help the animals. Lap Dog Rescue of NM has no paid employees. We don't even use our donated funds for dog food and incidentals. In addition to your thoughts and prayers for the little ones like Rosie, we truly appreciate your financial support. |
